Be Your Own Sunshine This Summer

Summer is just around the corner and you know what that means - long sunny days at the park and beach with friends and family! Summer presents a great opportunity to get out of the house and take in as much extracurricular activities as you can. Many music and arts festivals are also held throughout the summer, thus giving you a wonderful chance to enrich your mind and soul. Unfortunately, for others, summer may be a stressful time of the year when they are reminded of how much they weigh and how unsatisfied they are with their bodies. But summer doesn’t have to be like this, you shouldn’t feel inadequate because you know what, you are definitely more than enough.

In order to combat these feelings of unhappiness, start your days off with clarity and perspective. Realize that your past is in the past and you can’t go back to change it. The best you can do is be thankful for having the opportunity to learn from a bad experience. Now, you must focus on the present so your future will be as great as you want it to be. There are many things in life that can actually bring us joy but we take them for granted. For example, the fact that you’re able to read is a beautiful thing! Think of all the wonderful books you can get lost in, worlds you can explore from the comfort of your own home! You can also think of something entirely different, like the fact that you were able to fill up your gas tank today. Imagine the freedom that comes with being able to drive in any direction you’d like, or simply the sheer gratitude of having a job that pays for your car and gas. These small things are quite meaningful and impact our daily lives.

By focusing on the present and being mindful of the little things in life that can bring you great joy on a daily basis, you will then be able to focus on yourself with ease. Soon, you will see that the more time you devote to being grateful for the things you have, the more awesome things you will see within yourself. By filling your mind with positive thoughts, you will realize that you have nothing left but focusing on what makes you happy, which then leads you to take positive action in your life.

All this positive thinking will make you realize right away that there is zero reason to be dreading summer and hanging out with loved ones. Being thankful, mindful, and focusing on yourself will give you the strength to disregard the pettiness and negativity of others. It will be so easy to dismiss drama because you will be so busy smiling and working on what makes you happy. More importantly, body positivity issues won’t be a problem because your happiness and sense of self-worth will be founded on authenticity, on what’s real - you - and not some unrealistic standard set by the fashion industry.
